Monica Janes is an abstract expressionistic painter known for her use of vivid colors, visible brushstrokes and an undeniably, optimistic energy.

Biography

Monica is an abstract expressionistic painter currently living and working in New Jersey. Originally from Walnut Creek, CA., she has been involved in the creative process her entire life and cannot remember a time in her life when she wasn’t “making something”. That process began as a young child with an exploration of multiple types of creative media. She continued her love of creative expression (as well as an interest in the sciences) throughout her college years, ultimately graduating from Penn State University with a major in Graphic Design and a minor in Biology. She pursued a career in New York City (which she called home for almost 20 years) as an Art Director/Creative Director in the specialty field of pharmaceutical advertising. She left the corporate world a number of years ago to focus exclusively on her love of painting.

In addition to her passion for painting, Monica’s scientific curiosity in the fields of biology, psychology, and astronomy began at an early age and continue to be a major focus of interest, providing the thematic foundation for many of her paintings.

Her preferred medium is acrylic paint as its quick drying time affords her the desired degree of spontaneity and supports her layering approach. The incredible array of acrylic compatible formulations allows for endless opportunities for exploration and discovery.

Monica has participated in a number of group shows and is happy to have collectors from near and far across the United States as well as from Canada, Scotland, and England.
